If the postmark is greater than or equal to 30 days prior to his original, intended start date, then the student is entitled to a refund for the full amount of US$ 500.00. If the postmark is less than 30 days prior to the original, intended start date, then the student is entitled to a refund of US$ 250.00. The tuition deposit is not refundable after the first day of class.

The refund schedule is as follows:Return of Financial Aid
A similar pro-rata schedule is used to determine the amount of financial aid funds to be refunded at the time of withdrawal.
Tuition and Fees
All tuition and fees must be paid for before a student is permitted to register for classes. Students enrolling for the first time are required to have enough personal funds to comply with their financial obligations for the first semester.
Students waiting for the delivery of their student loans during subsequent semesters may provisionally register for classes. Responsibility for payment of tuition and all other University charges is solely that of the student. Bills are mailed to the student at the address on file approximately one month prior to the due date. Should a student not receive a bill, it is his or her responsibility to contact the Financial Aid Office, or the Bursar's Office to inquire about their billing.
Approximately 60% of the students in the St. Martinus University Faculty of Medicine use some form of
financial aid
to pay for part or all of their educational expenses. The Scholarship and Financial Aid Office
administers the financial
aid available to St. Martinus University students; assists in financial planning, budgeting
and completion of the application
process; and counsels students regarding management of their debt.
The University grants partial tuition scholarships to some entering students who demonstrate financial need and/or
academic
excellence. Those students who feel they meet the criteria for one or more programs are encouraged
to apply.
Although an application may be reviewed for several programs, a recipient generally will receive only
one type of
scholarship.
The majority of financial aid is received in the form of loans which are repaid after the student finishes his
or her studies.

Financial Aid Forms
General Financial aid and scholarship applicationSt. Martinus University's comprehensive outreach to governments and private lending institutions
combined with the University's own financial resources, have created a unique offering of loans
and other financing options for our students worldwide.
United States Citizens or Permanent Residents
The Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) is the US government's student loan program.
The program consists of subsidized Stafford, unsubsidized Stafford and Grad PLUS Loans. These
loans are currently NOT available to students of St. Martinus University; however, private funding
plans have been developed to provide alternatives to United States Citizens or Permanent Residents.
St. Martinus University offers qualified students a viable alternative by combining the American
International Medical Student Private Loan Program (AIMS) that has a combined maximum
borrowing limit of $16,500 per academic year and an overall aggregate of $82,000.
The St. Martinus Tuition Support Loan Program (TSLP) can further narrow the gap
between the AIMS Loan and the cost of attendance.
AIMS is a private loan program and is credit based. Students are required to have a US co-signer
and must have a satisfactory credit history in order to qualify for an AIMS loan. When combined
with the TSLP the terms offered are comparable to US government's student loan program.
TSLP are awarded as subsidized and unsubsidized based on eligibility determined by the Scholarship
and Financial Aid Committee of the school who meet regularly to evaluate applicants.
For loans awarded through the TSLP students may borrow up to $4,000 per academic year.
The TSLP loan has an aggregate limit of $ 20,000.
Under the TSLP the interest that accrues while the student is in school accrues
for up to four
years or until the student graduates while the student is enrolled atleast halftime. The student
is responsible only for the interest
that accrues after graduating or ceases to be enrolled at least halftime.
For loans issued through the unsubsidized AIMS Loan program students is responsible for all
accruing interest and may choose to repay the interest while in school or defer it until repayment
begins. Repayment begins when a student graduates or otherwise ceases to be enrolled at least
halftime; however, the borrower may continue to postpone repayment during the first year
of his/her medical residency.
AIMS and TSLP loans are processed by the North American Financial Aid Office of the University
and disbursement is made directly to the school. The interest is currently set at a fixed rate of 6.50%
for TSLP Loans with disbursements on or after July 1, 2009. The interest ranges from 8.5% to 10.5%
(based on credit score) for AIMS loans with disbursements on or after July 1, 2009. The interest rate is determined by the
credit worthiness as determined by the lender and subject to review and change each July 1st.
In addition, the student is required to pay a 3% origination fee percentage that is determined by the
lender. This origination fee will be withheld by the lender on each disbursement made.
To receive AIMS/TSLP Loans, recipients must be either permanent residents or citizens of the
United States, be enrolled in the School of Medicine, Curacao at least half-time, maintain satisfactory
academic progress, and maintain credit worthiness.

Private Loans Criteria
The North American Office of Financial Aid is constantly seeking to obtain private educational private
loans to meet part of their cost of attendance. These private loan programs are all credit based and are
offered only to students who have a satisfactory credit history as determined by the lender. These loans
have repayment terms that begin following graduation or withdrawal from school and may be extended
up to 20 years. The North American Financial Aid Office provides financial aid counseling services to
students in order to help them understand the eligibility requirements, terms and conditions.
The Financial Aid Office offers the following guidelines for financial planning and credit review
guidelines for US students.

Canadian Citizenship
Canadian students attending St. Martinus University are eligible to apply for Canadian government
funding through their province of residence. These loans are awarded through the Ministry of Education
of each province. These loans are interest-subsidized by the Canadian government while the student is
enrolled in school and maintaining satisfactory academic progress as determined by the individual province.
Eligible Canadian students can also apply for a credit line through their bank. Interested students should
contact their banks and provincial Canadian Student Loan offices for details and applications.
For those who have the financial means, St. Martinus University offers the Fidelity Reward Program that
allows for substantial savings.

University-Sponsored Loan Programs
Tuition Support Loan Program
Students who are residents or citizens of countries other than the United States may receive small loans
for partial tuition from the University. The loans do not have to be repaid until the student graduates or
otherwise separates from the University. The loans accrue interest at 6.5%. The amounts of the loans
vary, but they generally do not exceed one third of the tuition and fees.
The University offers a variety of institutional scholarships designed to recognize academic excellence
and provide access to the best and brightest students regardless of circumstance. In addition to
University-Sponsored Scholarships, we have worked to procure unique scholarship opportunities for our
students.
A small number of partial tuition scholarships and loans are granted to members of each entering class.
Awards for the full cost of attendance are not offered. In order for a student to plan in advance for the
financial obligations associated with attending St. Martinus University, most applications and awards are
made prior to their matriculation in the School.
All awards must be used to defray the cost of tuition and are credited directly to the student's account each
term by Student Financial Services. Awards are made for the length of the student's entire curriculum and
prorated on the term/academic year schedule. The award letter will outline the distribution of the award.
The Department of Financial Aid, in consultation with the school's Financial Aid committee, makes the
selection of award recipients.Award determinations are based on academic excellence, the degree of the
family's financial need and the availability of funds from the School, as well as each scholarship's specified criteria.
A student's ability to finance his/her education beyond the extent of the financial aid award is also an important
selection criterion. Applicants should be aware that the funding is limited, and the quality of the applicants is
generally very competitive. Unfortunately, awards cannot be made to every deserving student.
Applications will
be accepted from either applicants or accepted students. Applications are reviewed on a rolling
basis up until the first day of classes. Applicants will receive either an award letter or a letter of declination from the
Department of Financial Aid in a timely manner.

The Sister's Scholarship
In 1842 the order of Sisters of Roozendaal established the first school of the Dutch Caribbean, later to be named the
St. Martinus College. Their dedication to excellence in education served as the inspiration for the St. Martinus University
Faculty of Medicine. The scholarship program honors the Sisters and celebrates their legacy. Because the Sisters
served the community of the Dutch Caribbean, and in particular Curacao, this scholarship is available to Dutch
citizens that reside (were born) in the Dutch Caribbean.
Over the fifteen years starting from the commencement of the program in 2003, SMU will award partial scholarships
and loans to qualifying students who are accepted by SMU's Admission Committee.

The Martinus International Scholarship Program
Academically gifted students with limited resources deserve the ability to reach their potential. SMU recognizes this,
and that's why the University launched The Martinus International Scholarship Program (MISP).
The program
includes partial scholarships and loans, which will be awarded to students entering the Doctor of Medicine program.
The scholarships will provide well-trained doctors to enhance healthcare delivery in developing nations.
These doctors will be well equipped not only to help individual patients, but to contribute to their nation’s healthcare
systems as a whole.
The Scholarship and Financial Aid Committee established by the University awards the scholarships.
A prospective scholarship candidate must be a resident of an Asian or African country who has been accepted to
St. Martinus University Faculty of Medicine. SMU will maintain strict adherence to its admission requirements.
Award determinations will be made by the St. Martinus University Scholarship and Financial Aid Committee
based primarily on academic excellence, financial need and the student’s commitment to field of medicine.
